The Assistant Secretary and Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Undersecretary for Regional Operations, Honorable Carol M. Yorobe, graced the opening ceremony and delivered the message of the DOST Secretary Hon. Estrella F. Alabastro who was out of the country during the affair.
Asec Yorobe commended the efforts of the organizers spearheaded by Directors Gelonga, Llanto, and Esperancilla of DOST 6, 7, & 8, respectively for effectively handling the tedious tasks of organizing the fair. She also acknowledged the support of the Technology Application and Promotions Institute (TAPI) as funding agency and the participation of other DOST agencies in the event.
The message of Sec. Alabastro as read by Asec Yorobe emphasized the importance of science and technology in the lives of the people.
"History documented how men and women of science building the scientific knowledge generated by the world's greatest civilization have effectively harnessed science to provide the conveniences of the modern world." The message said.
Furthermore, the Secretary emphasized that the essence of science of technology development is on the innovativeness of the people. Innovation is important as it is considered the "lifeblood of civilization," she stressed.
And so she raised the challenge, "as we celebrate the 5th Visayas Cluster S & T Fair let us continue to advocate the use of science and technology to help us cope and take advantage of opportunities in this difficult and trying times." She encouraged everyone to actively participate in identifying interventions to allow the continuum of scientific activities that will lead to innovation.
